As per Vedic Vastu Shastra, the lord of fire has a place in South East direction. In our lives, the importance of fire element is large. This one element, gives us confidence, energy, happiness and considered to be playing a major role in our body digestive process. If the fire element is disturbed, it will bring low energy, digestive issues and unhappiness and problems in Business. It is said that a
person with a highly successful profile and company, will fail in the business, if the fire element (i.e. South East) is disturbed with construction of bathrooms or toilets inside the house.
Therefore, to maintain the fire energy in the house, South-East (SE) is considered as the best direction for Kitchen. This is also called as Agniya Kone (आग्नेय कोण) in Vastu Shastra. There are no alternatives mentioned. It has been seen that houses, restaurants strictly follow this guideline. It is also seen that whenever there are deviations, fire incidents have more likely happened. Following is

Placement of Kitchen as per Vedic Vastu Shastra Principles
1. Direction – South East is the best direction for Kitchen. The nearby section of SE i.e. South of South-East and East of South-East are also accepted. There are some Vastu experts, who mention North-West (NW) as also suitable direction and some deny it. As both sections produce enough evidences to support their point, it is better to not to deal with exceptions.Hence, I will not consider NW for Kitchen, to avoid any future issues, arising from Vastu Dosh.
2. A kitchen should never come above or below a Pooja room.
3. Within Kitchen, the fire elements like stove should be kept at SE and the water should be kept in NE.
4. Under no circumstances, South or south west have water draining, water source or tap. This should be towards, North West or North or East.
5. Cooking should be done while facing east only.
6. Ensure good ventilation in the Kitchen. Windows, can be considered in north and east to let positive energy flow into the Kitchen.
It is very important to note that many things are practically not possible, when we move from Macro suggestion to micro suggestion. What I meant here is that to place kitchen at South-East is the first priority. After this, when you try applying Vastu within Kitchen, it may not be necessary that it is achievable. Therefore, practical approach with the important aspects of Vastu not being neglected is the best approach to achieve a perfect house. 100 percent Vastu guidelines, can never be possible, however with the correct approach, it is possible to achieve a perfect house, which will be 85-90 percent Vastu Shastra complaint.
